Why are the coops not made from treated timber?

Treated timber is treated with copper, chromium and arsenic and it leaches out of the timber, so much so that it is now banned in NSW from being used in children’s play equipment. Why would you go to the trouble of having home grown eggs which had the potential to be contaminated with nasty chemicals? Eggs are porous, they have approximately 8000 air holes in the shell and they wick up chemicals.

The treatment is mostly to stop termites which we don’t find a problem as the coops are above ground and portable and termites hide from the light.
