Are your chooks debeaked?

I do not recommend or approve of the process, and certainly don’t do it myself. However, it is very hard to find suppliers who do not debeak as it is a cheap solution to the problem of pecking and it means that chooks can be kept in larger flocks.

At most times the chooks from Rentachook have not been debeaked or, at the worst, they are only “tipped”. The tipping removes the sharp hook on the end of the beak which is common in isabrowns. It is a gentler process than debeaking and not unsightly or unnecessarily cruel.

Non debeaked birds are more expensive for us to buy and we have to go further afield to get them, but I believe it is worth it.
